Boys Soccer makes improvement but wonders what could have been

It was a year of improvement for the LWW Boys soccer team, as they finished the season with three more wins than they did a season ago. Coach Matthew Laude was proud of the team’s effort, but knew obstacles plagued what could have been.

“The season didn’t go as well as I hoped or expected,” said Laude. “I have a great group of a junior class that I had as sophomores. I was hoping for a better run in the playoffs with another year of development with that junior group – but I am all the more excited about next season when they are seniors. Injuries in the junior group this year hurt us the most with 2 key Injuries.”

Reece Eggener, though not one of the juniors who will be returning, but a senior this year and on the way out, really earned his coaches respect this year following his performances, and leadership abilities.

“I would like to acknowledge Reece. He was my senior captain and did a great job leading by example. He was second for assists and goals on our team. He played three-plus different positions throughout the season and was a great teammate and didn’t complain.”

With the amount of seniors coming back next year the expectations from Laude’s perspective remain high.

“My goal next year for the boys is to win a regional championship,” he said. “We have some seriously good athletes that will be eager to do some damage in the playoffs next season.”

Hopefully next year, Coach and the boy’s achieve that goal!
