Boys swim team secures third at SWSC Championship

The Lincoln-Way West High School boys varsity swim team delivered a strong performance at the Southwest Suburban Conference (SWSC) Championship on Saturday, February 8, 2025, earning a third-place finish with 186 points.

According to the competition results, Lincoln-Way Central secured the top spot with 268 points, while Lincoln-Way East placed second with 222. Carl Sandburg scored 175 points and Lockport Township finished with 157 points, completing the top five in the nine-team event.

Lincoln-Way West had several standout swimmers who earned all-conference honors. Jake McCormack led the team with first-place finishes in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Billy Spee also made a significant impact by winning the 200-yard individual medley and securing second place in the 100-yard butterfly. Matt Wolf added a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, and Ethan Ferrucci placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Warriors excelled in relay events as well. The 200-yard medley relay team of McCormack, Ferrucci, Spee, and Wolf took second place. Similarly, the 200-yard freestyle relay team featuring Spee, Colin Stack, Wolf, and McCormack also secured second place.

With multiple top finishes, Lincoln-Way West showcased its depth and competitiveness. The team’s strong showing at the SWSC Championship provides momentum as it prepares for upcoming competitions. Swimmers are looking to continue their success at both sectional and state levels.
