The Lincoln-Way West boys volleyball team is preparing for another promising season following a successful 32-8 run that saw them reach the Elite Eight and achieve a No. 56 national ranking.
According to head coach Jodi Frigo, with 11 returning players, including eight seniors, the team is well-positioned for success. “We always want to improve from the previous year,” Frigo said. “With the experience we have, our hope is to finish at the top of our conference. Last year we were second, so we’re aiming to reclaim that No. 1 spot and make a deep postseason run.”
Senior Andrew Flores, who has been on varsity for four years and serves as the team’s libero, plays a crucial role in defense. Outside hitter Hunter Vetter, also a four-year player, has moved from middle blocker to starting outside hitter. Both athletes have gained significant experience in high-pressure situations.
Flores recalled their performance at state last year: “At state last year, we were all nervous,” he said. “But in those intense moments, I learned to trust my teammates. It’s not just about me—it’s a team sport. We’ve only got better and we’ll be even better prepared.”
Assistant coaches Ryan Denson and Sean Carls contribute additional expertise to the team, having previously led programs at St. Lawrence and Andrew High School. Denson has worked alongside Frigo for nearly ten years and appreciates their teamwork dynamic. “We play off each other well,” Denson said. “She’s passionate, and sometimes I’ll remind her to take a timeout. It’s a great balance.”
With talent, leadership, and experience on their side, the Warriors are focused on making a deep postseason run in 2025.
