Lincoln-Way West senior Brayden Nelson enters the season as an experienced midfielder, bringing nearly a decade of lacrosse experience to the Warriors’ lineup.
Nelson began playing the sport in fourth grade and is now in his eighth year, a journey that started after he decided to leave baseball in favor of a faster-paced game.
“Baseball was way too slow for me,” Nelson said. “I kind of just stood around, so I went to lacrosse because a friend played.”
Primarily a midfielder who has also seen time at attack, Nelson enjoys the versatility and constant movement required at his position.
The Warriors’ top team goal this season is to advance deep into the postseason, particularly by overcoming Neuqua Valley in sectional play after falling short in previous years.
“I think the goal for everybody is definitely beating Neuqua Valley in the sectional finals and getting past that,” Nelson said. “I’d like to make a run to state.”
Even after elimination, Nelson follows the postseason closely, hoping the team that defeated Lincoln-Way West advances as far as possible.
“If we lose, I want to lose to the best,” he said.
Nelson also expressed strong confidence in the Warriors’ defensive core, noting that key teammates have repeatedly stepped up to preserve games in difficult moments, providing stability for the entire team as it pursues a successful season.
