Carl Sandburg Eagles (2-1) at No. 6 Lincoln-Way West Warriors (3-0)
Kickoff: 7 p.m., Saturday
at Lincoln-Way West Stadium
21701 Gougar Rd, New Lenox
Streaks: Warriors 3 wins, Eagles 2 wins
What to watch: All three phases
With touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams in last week’s domination of Metea Valley, you really can’t take your eyes off the Warriors for a second. And considering the Warriors are now ranked No. 6 in the Illinois Class 7A Poll, LWW is getting a lot more attention.
Senior quarterback Chase Hetfleisch is 27-of-38 for 463 yards with nine touchdowns and just one interception through the first three games of the season. The dynamic receiver combination of DeAndrew Coates and Austin Rowswell have combined for seven receiving touchdowns. Jahan Abubakar continues to lead the rushing attack, averaging just over 100 yards per game to go with four touchdowns.
Through three games, the LWW defense is allowing an average of just 11 points per game. The secondary has gotten interceptions from Quinn Forsythe, Jackson Mansker and John Ramos. Josh Veldman leads the Warriors with 16 total tackles while Nate Elstner and Noah Wendt are tied for second with 11 total tackles each.
Sandburg comes into the game on a two-game winning streak, however, after wins over Oak Forest and Homewood-Flossmoor.
Eagles senior quarterback Anthony Shelton lit up Homewood-Flossmoor for 297 yards and four touchdowns a week ago and will provide a solid challenge for the Warriors defense.
The Eagles have allowed an average of 21 points per game through three weeks.
