Lincoln-Way West High School’s girls’ badminton team is gearing up for a new season under the guidance of coach Chris Hack. With a blend of seasoned players and promising newcomers, Hack expresses optimism about the team’s prospects.

Hack, who has a deep-seated passion for badminton, says his enthusiasm for the sport is matched by his dedication to coaching student-athletes. “I’ve always been drawn to the competitive spirit of badminton,” he said. “But beyond that, it’s the kids. I really enjoy being around them, seeing them grow both on and off the court.”

According to Hack, senior Jessica Dayton, a returning state qualifier, and Peyton White, a three-year varsity player, are expected to lead the team with their experience and leadership skills. “With their leadership and the energy from the rest of the team, I’m excited to see what we can accomplish this year,” he said. Additionally, Hack anticipates that a group of talented freshmen will significantly contribute to the team’s performance. “Their enthusiasm and potential are really exciting,” he added.

Following last year’s achievement of qualifying two singles players for state competitions, Hack has set ambitious goals for this season. “We want to have a strong preseason, win the conference championship, and qualify both singles and doubles players for state,” he said.

Hack emphasizes key values such as responsibility, perseverance, and teamwork—lessons he hopes will benefit players beyond their athletic endeavors. “We know our players juggle school, sports, and other commitments,” he noted. “Learning how to manage time and stay focused is crucial.” To foster team chemistry, Hack plans to introduce themed practices and joint activities between junior varsity (JV) and varsity teams. “We want the freshmen to feel welcome and create a team culture that is supportive and competitive,” he explained.

With strong leadership from returning players, promising new talent among freshmen recruits, and clear objectives set by Hack, Lincoln-Way West’s girls’ badminton team appears well-prepared for a successful season.
