Lincoln-Way West girls tennis coach John Cupp is entering his 10th year at the helm, and he believes this season is another chance to build on the program’s momentum.
Last season, Cupp pointed to a run that he described as “historic” for the Warriors. The team won the 16-team Lincoln-Way East Invite for the first time in school history and went on to host sectionals, where West claimed its first team championship. The postseason also brought a singles title from graduate Emily Tigchelaar and a runner-up doubles finish, capped by a state-qualifying appearance from senior Grace Cremieux.
Now, the Warriors turn the page with six seniors leading a roster that also includes several first-time varsity players. Cupp said he values the veterans’ positivity and leadership, adding that their approach has set the tone for the rest of the team.
“We’re a little young, but I know with the leadership of the six seniors, our program will continue to grow,” Cupp said. “The goal is just to keep building on our success from last season.”
With that mindset, West aims to stay competitive while developing depth and preparing the next wave of players for success.
