As the Lincoln Way girls’ lacrosse team gears up for the upcoming season, head coach Tim McDavid is concentrating on nurturing his players both on and off the field.
McDavid stepped into the coaching role driven by a desire to assist young athletes and fortify the team’s foundation. “I was the only one they knew who could help, so they offered me the position,” McDavid said. “I was happy to step in and make a difference.”
According to McDavid, with a blend of returning players and newcomers, he is eager to observe how his team advances. He expressed particular excitement about seeing his players apply their travel team experience at the high school level and develop as a cohesive unit. “I’m looking forward to seeing how the girls grow together,” he said.
Coaching opportunities in the area are reportedly scarce, but McDavid was motivated by the chance to contribute. His passion lies in equipping his athletes with knowledge and tools necessary for success beyond lacrosse. “It’s hard to find coaches in this area,” McDavid said. “So when the opportunity presented itself, I was happy to step in and help out.”
This season, McDavid is placing emphasis on team dynamics and cohesion. While individual skill remains important, he believes teamwork and discipline are crucial for success. “We have to buckle down and work together as a team,” he said.
Beyond sports, McDavid focuses on character development by instilling values such as respect, teamwork, and adaptability among his players. “We’re trying to create simple human beings who have different sets of skills,” he said.
