Head Coach Eric Pavlacka is focused on building team chemistry, developing leadership, and continuing the program’s success at Lincoln-Way West.
With a deep passion for the sport, Pavlacka reflected on his coaching journey and shared insights on what fans can expect this year. His love for water polo began in college, where he founded a club team. “That’s when I truly fell in love with the sport,” he said. “Ever since, I’ve been determined to coach and share that passion with others.” Pavlacka’s transition from player to coach has shaped his approach to mentoring young athletes.
According to Pavlacka, he is eager to see the team’s camaraderie grow. “One of the best things about this sport is the unity it fosters,” he said. “The girls are coming together more than ever, and that bond is what makes water polo so special. We’re not just a team; we’re a family.”
After graduating several key players, Pavlacka sees this year’s 12 seniors as crucial to the team’s success. “They were part of last year’s sectional championship team, and I’m excited to see them continue to grow as leaders,” he said. One standout player to watch is Josephine Roedl. Pavlacka said that “Joey has been a leader in the pool for us” and emphasized her ability to direct play and rally the team as vital this season.
A strong emphasis on teamwork is central to Pavlacka’s coaching philosophy. He explained that in water polo, every move requires communication: “If we’re not in sync, we’re not functioning as a unit.” With many players also competing in club water polo, their familiarity with each other’s playing styles strengthens their chemistry.
As Lincoln-Way West dives into the season, Pavlacka’s leadership and focus on unity set the foundation for another competitive year.
