Decker on offense, Tuttle on defense spark big week for volleyball

Elly Decker paced the offense and Laney Tuttle controlled the defense as the Warriors rolled through another week of volleyball season. 

The Warriors’ week began with a tight, 3-game loss to Yorkville on Sept. 4.

Lily Goyer led the offense against Yorkville with a 26% kill efficiency. Right behind was Kara Stigter and Elly Decker at 20%. Claire Murphy chipped in with 28 assists. 

LWW then rolled through a pair of games on Friday, Sept. 6, knocking off Rock Island in two sets and Pleasant Prairie in three sets. 

The Warriors were dominant against Rock Island, conceding only 13 points in game one and 18 in game two. Claire Murphy carried the offense with 20 assists. Decker led the offense with 57% kill efficiency and Goyer close behind with 37% Tuttle led the defense with 6 digs. 

After a convincing win in the first set against Pleasant Prairie, LWW had to rally from a second set loss to win the third set, 15-9.

Claire Murphy led the team with 26 assists. Major contributors to the offense were Decker at 46% kill efficiency and Goyer close behind at 36%. Tuttle again ran the defense with 15 digs.

The Warriors also had a pair of games on Saturday, Sept. 7, winning the first in two close sets against Mascoutah and falling in heart-breaking fashion to Washington. 

Against Mascoutah, Tuttle led the team in aces with four to go along with 12 digs. Clair Murphy added 18 assists. Decker led the offense with 40% kill efficiency, followed by Caroline Smith with 19%. 

The Warriors actually won more points than Washington in the narrow defeat, thanks to an incredible 25-15 win in the second set and a narrow 25-22 loss in the first. The decisive third set was extremely close, but went to Washington 15-13.

Tuttle again led the defense with 14 digs. Goyer led the offense with a 57% kill efficiency and right behind was Smith with 37%. Murphy led the team in assists with 27 on the match. 

The Warriors rounded out their week on Sunday, Sept 8 with another narrow loss. LWW came from a set down to force a third, and for the second time in two days lost the third set by just two points. 

Smith led the team with 23% kill efficiency with Goyer right behind at 18%. Tuttle had 12 digs and 2 aces.
