In her first golf tournament as a true freshman collegian, Kalee Dwyer (Mokena/class of ‘24) cracked the starting lineup for Western Kentucky.
Dwyer competed in the Purdue Boilermaker Classic in West Lafayette, Ind., Sept. 2-3, shooting 244 over 54 holes to tie for 76th place as an individual.
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers placed fourth in the field of 14 teams, behind Purdue, Minnesota and Kent State and tied with Indiana. They finished ahead of Notre Dame, Michigan, Alabama, Abilene Christian, Ball State, Georgia Southern, James Madison, Minnesota, North Florida, Old Dominion and Xavier.
The tournament was held on the Kampen-Cosler Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
Dwyer, 18, won the 2023 2A state championship and was a four-time Illinois State Tournament qualifier and three-time IHSA Regional Champion at Lincoln-Way West. She also won the Illinois Junior Golf Association Players Challenge Championship three times.
