Lincoln-Way West’s girls cross country team showcased grit and depth Saturday at the Steelmen Invitational, highlighted by eight personal records and a team trophy.
The Warriors’ varsity squad placed third overall with 74 points, led by Ally Dean’s 33rd-place finish. Her steady effort set the tone for a group that maintained composure in a competitive field.
In the junior varsity race, Payton Guendling paced the Warriors with a 35th-place finish, adding consistency to the team’s overall showing.
The highlight of the meet came from the fresh-soph lineup, which earned a third-place team trophy. Several runners clocked personal bests to secure the hardware, led by Neve McSherry in third place and Penny Pinciak in seventh. Adriana Litro added a 15th-place finish, while Kate Lemke (30th) and Ava Ferrucci (31st) rounded out the scoring with strong PRs of their own.
The day’s results reflected not only individual breakthroughs but also West’s ability to thrive across multiple levels of competition. With eight personal records recorded, the Warriors displayed both improvement and promise as the season builds momentum.
