Fall Sports Roundup

0Comments

While football, soccer and volleyball take some of the major headlines, all of Lincoln-Way West’s fall sports have been in action. Here is a roundup of previews and results.

Dance

The West Dance program looks forward to another great season. During the 2023-2024 season, the varsity team earned the conference title. The team also earned the program’s seventh Sectional title and was the 2A Competitive Dance State Runner-Up.

Girls Golf

The Girls Golf team is off to a great start. They are 1-1 in match play and recently took first place in the 14-team Rockford Tournament.

Last season, the team qualified for the state finals for the first time in school history and alumna Kaylee Dwyer won the state championship. The top returning players are Peyton White, Reilly Carlson, Sydney Pohlmann, Kiera Grimmett, and Alexa Plunk.

Boys Golf

The Varsity Boys Golf team is already off to a great start on the season, hoping to improve on last year’s second-place finish in the SWSC Red Division.

The Warriors have seven returning varsity players and are led by juniors Drake Been, EJ Dwyer, and Liam Wills. This year’s team has plenty of firepower to make a deep run in the postseason.

Girls Swimming and Diving

The Lincoln-Way West Girls Swimming and Diving team are looking to start a new era with a strong showing in the Southwest Suburban Conference. Eleven seniors will lead the way for the Warriors as part of a well-rounded group that should have strong representation in all events.

Seniors Dana Dykshorn and Ally Donovan look to lead the way in the sprint events, while junior Isabella Shenberger and sophomore Lily Conoboy will head up the distance group.

Newcomers Kate Giroux and Ally Dean will rely on their strong gymnastics backgrounds to make an immediate impact on the diving boards, and many others will be strong factors in the butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke events.

The team will look to improve upon last year’s fourth-place finish at the sectional meet and aims to qualify several individuals for the state meet.
