The Lincoln-Way West girls varsity badminton team secured second place in a competitive quad meet held on March 24, 2025.
According to the event’s results, the Warriors concluded with 10 points and a record of 1-1-1. They began with a 6-2 victory over Downers Grove South, followed by a 4-4 tie against Wheaton Warrenville South, and ended with an 8-0 defeat to Neuqua Valley.
Senior Jess Dakin was highlighted for her performance. After losing her initial match against Wheaton Warrenville South, she achieved two consecutive victories. Her final match culminated in a close 21-19 win, demonstrating determination and focus under pressure. This earned her commendation from both teammates and coaches.
The Warriors’ consistent play enabled them to secure second place overall in the standings. Despite Neuqua Valley’s dominance, Lincoln-Way West remained competitive throughout all three rounds of play. “Our players fought hard in every match,” said head coach Chris Hack. “Even after tough moments, they stayed composed and played with heart. Jess’s comeback was especially exciting and showed her grit, talent, and leadership.”
Hack noted that the tie against Wheaton Warrenville South was crucial for Lincoln-Way West’s second-place finish, allowing them to edge out Downers Grove South by a narrow margin in the final points tally.
Looking forward, the Warriors anticipate their upcoming matches with increased momentum and confidence. Monday’s performance is seen as reflective of the team’s growth and resilience as they aim for more wins and deeper tournament success in the weeks ahead.
