Gugliuzza averages 6.2 points per game to start sophomore season with SIUE

Lincoln-Way West (LWW) alumna and current Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) student-athlete Ava Gugliuzza has logged six games for the Cougars women’s basketball team to begin the 2024-2025 season.

According to Gugliuzza’s page on the program’s website, the 5-foot-5 guard recorded her best game so far in SIUE’s young campaign against the University of Central Florida (UCF) on Nov. 22. Gugliuzza scored 12 points and shot 50% from the field in 32 minutes of action for the Cougars. SIUE, however, fell to UCF, 81-71.

Her best defensive game was against Roosevelt University on Nov. 19. She collected two steals and a block against the Lakers in the Cougars’ 73-44 victory over the private Chicago university.

As of Dec. 2, Gugliuzza is averaging 6.2 points per game and 1.5 assists per game in her second season with the team. The Cougars are presently 1-5 with a Dec. 4 matchup against Middle Tennessee State University.

Prior to enrolling at SIUE, the New Lenox, IL, native captained the LWW girls basketball team in her senior year. She shattered several records in a Warriors uniform, including the most three-pointers in a season, career, and game.
