Lincoln-Way West senior Max Herman closed out an outstanding final season at 165 pounds, finishing among the best wrestlers in Illinois and leaving a strong mark on the Warriors’ program.
Herman’s season concluded in February at the IHSA Class 3A State Finals in Champaign, where he earned a fifth-place finish in the state tournament to cap his senior campaign.
Throughout the season, Herman consistently proved himself as one of the top competitors in his weight class. He recorded several dominant victories, including a 19-4 technical fall against A. Goldsmith of Moline and a 15-0 technical fall over R. Wandtke of Belvidere North, showing his ability to control matches and build commanding leads.
During the postseason, Herman also captured a regional championship at 165 pounds, helping Lincoln-Way West send several wrestlers deeper into the state series.
But the defining moment of Herman’s senior season came on the biggest stage. Battling through a deep field at the state tournament, Herman secured a fifth-place finish, closing his career as one of the top wrestlers in Illinois and finishing his senior year with a performance to remember.
