The Lincoln-Way boys lacrosse team is preparing for the upcoming season with aspirations of success, guided by strong leadership and a unified mission to support one another and aim for a championship victory.
“We’re bringing a lot of returners back,” head coach Tyler Jackson said. “We’ve got strong leaders, great athletes, and I think this is the year we start making a lot more noise.” Jackson attributes much of the team’s energy and cohesion to its inclusive culture. “Every guy has value, whether they’re a starter or not seeing the field much,” he said. “Everyone is accountable to each other. We have a very strong, team-first mindset.”
According to assistant coach Mike McCormick, the local youth lacrosse program plays a significant role in fostering team chemistry. “Even though they attend different high schools, many of these guys have been playing together for years,” McCormick said. “Lacrosse doesn’t have the long history like football or baseball, so the players tend to stick together. It’s something special.”
Team leaders are reinforcing this message. Senior Matt Konow noted that the team has been close to achieving their goals in recent seasons. “We’ve come so close. Now, it’s about making sure everyone is connected and focused on the team goal—getting some hardware.”
Pre-game rituals also highlight the players’ personal connections to the sport. Logan McGregor listens to “Hey Dude” in memory of his late grandfather, while Dylan Thorpe retapes his stick before every game. Logan Lahey uses special screws on his stick just for game day.
Senior Nate Uloswceh summarized their approach: “Everyone plays their role. We stick to what coaches teach us and feed off each other.”
