The Lincoln-Way West Warriors defeated the Vernon Hills Cougars 16–7 in a girls varsity water polo tournament matchup.
The game took place at a neutral tournament site and saw Lincoln-Way West control the pace from the opening sprint. The Warriors set the tone early with a 4–1 first quarter, then matched that output in the second to take an 8–4 lead into halftime. West broke the game open in the third, pouring in six goals while holding Vernon Hills to two. That 6–2 frame pushed the margin to double digits and effectively sealed the result. The Warriors closed strong as well, adding four more in the fourth to cap an 18-goal night.
This victory advances Lincoln-Way West’s standing ahead of their next scheduled home conference game against Lincoln-Way East on Tuesday, March 31 at 10 a.m., as reported by MaxPreps. The last time these teams met, the Warriors lost their home playoff game against the Griffins by a score of 8-2 on May 16, 2025, according to MaxPreps.
Lincoln Way West serves grades nine through twelve and had an enrollment of 1,941 students during the 2019-2020 school year. It is located in New Lenox and Will County, according to Illinois Report Card. Of those students, grade ten had the highest concentration with 39.4 percent of all students enrolled during that period. Grade twelve accounted for 37 percent of students; grade eleven for 36.1 percent; and grade nine for 36.3 percent, according to Illinois Report Card.
Demographically, Lincoln Way West was made up of 81.8 percent white students, 1.8 percent black students, 12.7 percent Hispanic students, and one percent Asian students during the same school year, according to Illinois Report Card.
