Lincoln-Way West’s varsity wrestling team demonstrated a strong performance at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Regional on Saturday, advancing 11 out of 14 athletes to the sectional tournament and crowning two individual champions.

According to the results, the Warriors finished second in the team standings with 210 points, showing depth across multiple weight classes. Brady Glynn (113 pounds) and Nate Elstner (215 pounds) led their team by each claiming regional titles. Their victories position them as strong contenders heading into sectionals.

Several other Warriors also achieved runner-up finishes, which highlighted the team’s consistency. Shane Stream (126), Carter Dibenedetto (132), Jakob Siwinski (138), Haden Anderson (144), Jack Strezo (150), and Jimmy Talley (190) all secured second-place finishes, earning their spots in the sectional tournament.

Additionally, three Lincoln-Way West wrestlers battled through challenging brackets to take third place and keep their postseason hopes alive. Max Munn (120), DJ Freeman (165), and Brandon Barvisha (285) each advanced to the next round.

With 11 sectional qualifiers, Lincoln-Way West has a significant chance of sending multiple wrestlers to the IHSA State Tournament. The team will compete in sectionals next weekend, aiming to maintain their momentum and fight for state berths.

Head coach and team supporters expressed pride in the wrestlers’ hard work and determination, emphasizing that the results reflect the team’s dedication throughout the season. “We’re really proud of the effort these guys put in,” a team representative said. “They’ve been grinding all year, and it’s great to see it pay off.”

Lincoln-Way West will now focus on preparing for the sectional round, where they hope to build on their regional success and secure spots in the state finals.
