The LWW bowling team experienced a momentous day at the invitational on Saturday, December 14, as they navigated challenging competition to secure their first invitational victory of the season.
According to reports, the team began with a strong performance in the morning, securing sixth place and earning a spot in the Gold Division championship brackets. Their initial opponent, Joliet West, posed a significant challenge. However, West emerged victorious by a narrow margin of seven pins and advanced to face Oswego in the subsequent round. After four closely contested games, the match culminated with anchor bowler Matthew Staniszewski delivering two crucial strikes in the 10th frame to clinch a three-pin victory for West.
In the final match against Yorkville—a team recognized for its robust performances this season—Yorkville initially took the lead by winning the first game and leading by 14 pins. Nonetheless, West rallied back to win the next two games, securing both the match and their first invitational title. Staniszewski was named team MVP for his outstanding performance, averaging 206 and executing pivotal strikes in the 10th frame. Freshman Patrick Berlin also made an impressive contribution with an average of 203.5 and a high game score of 246.
This victory represented a significant milestone for LWW’s bowling team, which had previously finished second twice this season. With commendable performances from both seasoned players and newcomers—including seniors Jayden Kristie and Logan Nicholls, freshman Ryan Richter, sophomore Matthew McLean, and junior Staniszewski—the team is well-positioned for continued success throughout the remainder of the season. The win held particular significance for younger bowlers who gained invaluable experience during championship rounds.
