Lincoln-Way West boys’ soccer team secured a dramatic victory in their conference opener on Tuesday night, defeating Homewood-Flossmoor 4-3. The match, held on Lincoln-Way West’s home field, was one of the most thrilling encounters of the season.
According to the team’s performance, senior forward Ryan Saysongkham set an early tone by scoring two goals, keeping the Warriors competitive against the Vikings. His attacking presence was crucial in a closely contested match that challenged both teams throughout.
The decisive moment occurred with just five seconds remaining. With the score tied at 3-3, sophomore midfielder Nicholas Vicario scored the game-winning goal, securing a significant win for Lincoln-Way West.
Head coach Matt Laude expressed his admiration for the team’s effort, describing it as one of his most memorable coaching experiences. “The boys battled for a full 80 minutes,” Laude said. “Nicholas’ finish at the end capped off the hard work from everyone on the field.”
This victory improved Lincoln-Way West’s record to 3-4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Warriors are set to face crosstown rival Lincoln-Way Central on Saturday, September 27, in another important matchup.
