Lincoln-Way West captures IHSA regional title

Lincoln-Way West boys wrestling captured the IHSA Regional championship with a dominant team effort, finishing first overall ahead of Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way East.

The IHSA Regional tournament was held Jan. 31 at 9 a.m., with Lincoln-Way West competing in the postseason round.

The Warriors showcased depth across the lineup, qualifying 10 wrestlers for the sectional tournament while earning multiple top-two finishes. Charlie Strezo and Max Herman paced the field with first-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Michael Scott, Kellan Hack, Carter DiBenedetto, Brady Glynn, Shane Stream, Jack Strezo, Evan Gutierrez and Jimmy Talley each placed second to secure advancement.

Lincoln-Way West’s consistency across all weight classes proved decisive, allowing the Warriors to separate from the competition as Lincoln-Way Central finished second and Lincoln-Way East placed third. Nearly every weight contributed key points, highlighting the balance and depth that powered the team to the regional title.

The regional championship continues a strong postseason run for Lincoln-Way West and marks another milestone for the program as it advances to the next stage of the IHSA tournament series.
