Lincoln-Way West High School emerged victorious over Sandburg with a 2-0 win in overtime on Friday night, securing the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Regional Final championship.
The match, held at Lincoln-Way West High School on October 24, 2025, remained scoreless through regulation time. According to reports from the game, the Warriors took the lead in the first overtime period when Will Jirek scored off a cross from Cohen Cox, igniting celebrations among the home supporters. Shortly after, Marcel Lepionka converted a penalty kick to confirm the 2-0 victory and clinch the regional title for Lincoln-Way West. The team’s defense was noted for its resilience throughout the match, effectively limiting Sandburg’s opportunities and maintaining a clean sheet.
Looking ahead, Lincoln-Way West will advance to face their next challenge in the sectional semifinals scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Joliet West. The Warriors aim to extend their postseason success. With this defeat, Sandburg concludes its season.
Earlier this fall, in nonconference play, Lincoln-Way West and Sandburg played to a 1-1 draw. This previous encounter set up Friday’s decisive rematch where Lincoln-Way West ensured there would be no repeat of a tie, thus advancing further in their pursuit of championship glory.
