The Lincoln-Way West girls varsity volleyball team faced challenges on Thursday night, losing in straight sets to Lyons Township with scores of 25-18 and 25-12 in a nonconference match.
According to the match report, the Warriors kept pace early in the opening set. However, Lyons Township’s balanced attack and strong defensive presence proved overwhelming as the set progressed. Lincoln-Way West trailed by just three points midway through the first set before Lyons Township pulled away late to secure a 25-18 win.
In the second set, Lyons Township controlled the pace from the start, establishing an early lead that they maintained throughout. Lincoln-Way West’s offense was held in check, managing only 12 points in the final frame.
Junior outside hitter Kara Stigter led Lincoln-Way West with four kills, providing some offensive momentum despite Lyons Township’s dominant net play. Head coach and players credited Lyons Township for its strong performance but noted areas for improvement as the season continues, including serve receive and limiting unforced errors.
Lincoln-Way West will aim to recover in its next matchup as conference play begins. The Warriors continue their homestand next week, focusing on regrouping and building on early lessons from the season.
