Lincoln-Way West falls to Argo 64-60 in Overtime

Argo High School triumphed over Lincoln-Way West with a 64-60 victory in overtime on Tuesday. The Argonauts entered the game with a 7-7 overall record and were seeking their first conference win after four losses. Their previous game resulted in a 75-64 defeat against Hillcrest. Meanwhile, Lincoln-Way West, holding an 8-8 record and two conference wins, had recently lost to Bradley with a score of 56-35.

According to the game’s report, the first half was closely contested, with Argo leading 34-28 at halftime. Junior guard Syncere Westbrook contributed significantly for the Argonauts with eight points in the first half. Senior forward Wyatt Carlson led Lincoln-Way West’s efforts with five points. The Warriors mounted a comeback in the third quarter, securing a 45-37 lead going into the final period.

However, Argo managed to rally and tie the game at 53-53, pushing it into overtime. In this decisive period, junior forward Darron Greer Jr. emerged as a key player for Argo by scoring 21 points, including crucial baskets towards the end of the game. Despite senior guard Max Gabriel’s leading performance for Lincoln-Way West with 22 points, the team struggled under pressure during critical moments.

“We just started turning the ball over, and they went on a run,” said Lincoln-Way West head coach Tanner Mitchell. “We need to handle pressure better moving forward.”
