Lincoln-Way West’s girls swim team showed resilience and standout individual efforts Thursday in their dual meet against Sandburg.
The Warriors found momentum in sprint and distance events. Brooke Martenz dominated the varsity 50-yard freestyle with a winning time of 25.97 seconds, while teammate Lily Conoboy followed closely in third at 27.25. Martenz added a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:10.98), with Conoboy and Olivya Agema also scoring valuable points.
Lincoln-Way West excelled in relays, finishing second in the varsity 200 medley (2:07.39) and 200 freestyle relay (1:49.68), with strong legs from Isabella Shenberger, Ellie Trench, and Amelia Benz. The varsity 400 free relay squad capped the night with a 4:06.24 effort for another runner-up finish.
In distance races, Natalie Briese led the Warriors with a first-place finish in the varsity 500 freestyle, clocking 6:08.95. Liv Senesac (6:13.59) and Lyla Lokanc (6:23.31) also contributed top-five swims.
On the junior varsity side, Raelyn Ditmars captured the 100 freestyle in 1:07.17, while Erin Peterson and Leah Denton added top-three finishes in the 200 free.
With a balanced mix of sprint speed and distance strength, Lincoln-Way West showcased its depth and determination across both levels.
