Lincoln-Way West’s girls varsity volleyball team overcame an initial setback to secure a victory against Yorkville in a home match on Wednesday.
The Warriors lost the first set 26-24 but rebounded by winning the subsequent sets 25-16 and 25-21. Senior player Kaylea Armstrong contributed significantly with 18 service points, including six aces, which provided crucial momentum during the match. Sophomore Lily Goyer added nine kills, offering consistent offensive support at the net. Emma Novotny also delivered a flawless performance with a perfect kill ratio on five attempts.
According to the team’s head coach and players, they praised the squad’s resilience after their initial stumble. The Warriors quickly regrouped, improving their defense and taking advantage of Yorkville’s errors to shift the momentum in their favor. “This group showed a lot of grit,” said a team spokesperson. “They stayed calm under pressure and trusted each other.”
With this win, Lincoln-Way West maintains its strong early-season performance and gains confidence as they prepare for upcoming conference play. The Warriors face a challenging schedule ahead but have demonstrated their ability to respond effectively when tested.
