The Lincoln-Way West junior varsity boys golf team secured first place in a triangular match against Lincoln-Way Central and Stagg on Thursday, finishing with a team score of 156.
According to the team’s report, the Warriors were led by freshman Judah Portwood, who earned medalist honors with a round of 36. Sophomores Colton Gagan, Luke Stoner, and Brayden Shanahan each carded a 40 to secure the victory. The win marked a strong showing for West, which competed on Lincoln-Way Central’s home course. The Warriors outpaced both Central and Stagg in the three-team event, continuing their early-season momentum.
Head coach and teammates praised Portwood’s steady play under pressure. His even-keeled performance helped set the tone for the rest of the lineup, while Gagan, Stoner, and Shanahan provided consistent scores to keep West ahead on the leaderboard. The junior varsity squad’s depth proved to be a deciding factor in the outcome, as all four counting scores came in at 40 or lower. That balance reflects the work the Warriors have put in during practices and early competitions.
Lincoln-Way West will look to build on this result as the season progresses, with additional conference matches scheduled later this month.
