Lincoln-Way West used a last-minute scoring drive to edge Lockport 21-17 on Friday, improving to 2-0 and proving its toughness in a game that went down to the wire.
Senior running back Jahan Abubakar led the way with 22 carries for 140 yards and two touchdowns, including the decisive score with 11.9 seconds left. His game-winner capped an 11-play, 70-yard march that showcased West’s balance and composure under pressure.
Quarterback Grant Tustin played a critical role in the drive, scrambling for a 15-yard gain and connecting on clutch throws to extend the series. He found tight end Chase Markowicz for 14 yards and hit Ethan Swanson for 18 more, setting up Abubakar’s touchdown plunge. Earlier, Markowicz had powered into the end zone on a 13-yard run, giving the Warriors a lift in the first half.
Lockport battled back to take a late lead, but West’s defense rose to the occasion, tightening in the fourth quarter and coming up with stops to keep the game within reach.
The victory highlighted West’s resilience and ability to finish in pressure situations. With confidence growing and contributions across the roster, the Warriors have shown they can compete with anyone as conference play approaches.
