Lincoln-Way West demonstrated resilience and teamwork on Friday night, overcoming an early 14-point deficit to defeat Waubonsie Valley 27-17.

According to the game report, the Warriors remained composed after Waubonsie scored twice in the opening quarter. Running back Jimmy Talley scored from a yard out to stabilize the team, and after another score by Waubonsie, he reached the end zone again before halftime, keeping West within 17-14.

From that point, the game shifted. West’s defense strengthened, preventing Waubonsie from scoring for the remainder of the game. Kicker Zach Hermanson successfully executed a 38-yard field goal to tie the game in the third quarter. Talley’s third touchdown—a 19-yard run in the fourth quarter—gave West its first lead of the night. Hermanson later added an 18-yard field goal to secure the victory.

Quarterback Grant Tustin threw for 205 yards, connecting with Ethan Swanson seven times for 147 yards. The ground game contributed significantly with 228 rushing yards. West controlled possession, maintaining control of the ball for over 38 minutes and wearing down Waubonsie’s defense.

The victory was attributed to a collective team effort, featuring significant plays on offense, consistent defense, and effective special teams performance.
