Lincoln-Way West Shines at ONU Classic

Lincoln-Way West track and field team delivered an impressive performance at the ONU High School Classic, highlighted by multiple victories, school records, and a dominant team title.

The meet took place Feb. 27 at Olivet Nazarene University during the ONU High School Classic, where the Warriors piled up 109 points to finish first in the team standings.

Sophomore Zaven Johnson captured the 400 meters with a time of 50.56, establishing himself as the top sophomore in Illinois in the event. Hunter Spee also had a standout day, winning the 800 meters in 1:56.19 while breaking the school record. In the hurdles, Braydon McNulty placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.41, setting a new sophomore school record. In the field events, John Kinsella cleared 1.90 meters (6 feet, 2¾ inches) to break the school record in the high jump.

The Warriors were also dominant in the relays. The 4×200-meter team of Chase Kennedy, Jahan Abubakar, Braydon McNulty, and Markowicz ran 1:31.91, the second-fastest time in school history and the fastest in Illinois on a flat track this season. 

The strong performances across multiple events powered Lincoln-Way West to a convincing team victory.
