As the Lincoln-Way West varsity tennis team prepares for the upcoming season, head coach Tim Daly is eager to guide his players through new challenges, including a major conference realignment.
According to Daly, who developed a love for tennis during his college years, coaching became a natural extension of his passion for the sport. “I’ve always enjoyed playing tennis recreationally, and that enjoyment made me want to share my passion and help others develop their skills,” he said.
One of the biggest changes this season is Lincoln-Way West’s transition to a nine-team conference. Previously, the team competed in two smaller conferences. Daly believes the new format will offer valuable opportunities. “This new structure will present new challenges and opportunities for our team,” he said.
As the Warriors take on stronger competition, Daly pointed to two key athletes expected to make an impact: Jayden Kristie, a three-year varsity player known for his consistency and leadership; and Joey Wakefield, a four-year varsity player recognized for her dedication and work ethic. “Both players are great examples of leadership and commitment,” Daly said.
Daly’s primary focus this season is improving singles play while continuing to develop the doubles teams. “We’re strong with our returning doubles players, but we’ll be focusing on improving our singles play,” he said. “Overall, I’m looking forward to seeing growth and progress from all of our athletes.”
Beyond competition, Daly emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork. He encourages players to support one another, especially during difficult moments.
