Lincoln-Way West Volleyball Banking on Senior Leadership, New Faces

0Comments

The Warriors girls’ volleyball team is set to begin the 2025 season with high expectations, guided by experienced leadership and a strong tradition. Last year, the team concluded with an overall record of 25-13 and a conference play record of 5-3, securing back-to-back regional championships.

Senior leadership will be pivotal for the Warriors, as five seasoned players return: Claire Murphy, Kara Stigter, Lily Goyer, Sophia Rozga, and Ava Casner. According to Coach Kendall Villa, Goyer, a 6-foot-2 middle hitter committed to the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNC Wilmington), is expected to excel at the net. Stigter, a 5-11 outside hitter, and Murphy, a 5-7 setter, are anticipated to provide offensive stability. Meanwhile, Rozga, a 5-5 libero/defensive specialist, will anchor the back row.

Villa said that the team has been diligently preparing throughout the summer and possesses “a ton of heart” heading into the season. Despite only three starters returning from last year’s squad, several experienced contributors are ready to step up. Among them is junior Emma Novotny, who returns from injury and is set to assume the role of middle hitter. Sophomore Elena Mason will also compete for playing time at libero, challenging both Rozga and junior Ellie Laack for defensive positions.

With formidable rivals such as Lincoln-Way East, Lockport, and Joliet West on their schedule, the Warriors recognize that their senior-heavy roster and eager newcomers will face early tests.
