Lincoln-Way West Warriors defeat Moline 2-1 in regional opener

The Lincoln-Way West Warriors emerged victorious against Moline High School with a 2-1 win in the first round of regional girls varsity volleyball on Tuesday night.

The match was held at Moline High School, where the Warriors navigated through three competitive sets to clinch the victory. Lincoln-Way West overcame an initial strong performance from Moline, with Kara Stigter leading their offense by securing 15 kills. Kaylea Armstrong added nine kills, offering significant support at the net. On defense, Sophia Rozga anchored the backcourt with 19 digs and contributed an ace, while Claire Murphy facilitated the offense with 30 assists and three aces. The team’s cohesion and energy were evident throughout the match, aiding them in closing out the third set and advancing to the next round.

According to team officials, Lincoln-Way West will next face the winner of the Glenbard East and Naperville Central matchup at the regional semifinals on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lincoln-Way West High School.

In their previous encounter last season, Lincoln-Way West defeated Moline in straight sets, 2-0, which set a strong precedent for their regional campaign.
