The Lincoln-Way West Warriors defeated the Plainfield North Tigers 2–1 in a varsity boys volleyball non-conference match.
The match took place at Lincoln-Way West High School and was closely contested throughout. The Lincoln-Way West boys varsity volleyball team opened its season with a thrilling home victory over Plainfield North, rallying from a 16–22 deficit in the third set to close out a 26–24 win. Mason Thompson led the charge with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Ryan Czernik added 9 kills, 5 blocks, and 4 digs. Colin Baikie contributed 8 kills and 12 digs, and David Neylon chipped in 8 kills and an ace. Aidan Kettelson directed the offense with 22 assists, 6 digs, an ace, and a kill, complemented by Mikey Nebel’s 16 assists and 4 digs. Nick Veldman rounded out the effort with 2 kills.
The team will next travel to Marist for another non-conference matchup scheduled for Tuesday, March 31 at 6 p.m., according to MaxPreps.
In their previous meeting against Marist on March 31, 2025, Lincoln-Way West lost its home non-conference match by a score of 2-0, according to MaxPreps.
Lincoln Way West High School serves grades nine through twelve and had an enrollment of 1,941 students during the 2019-2020 school year. It is located in New Lenox and Will County, according to Illinois Report Card. Of these students, grade ten had the highest concentration at 39.4 percent; grade nine accounted for 36.3 percent; grade eleven made up 36.1 percent; and grade twelve comprised 37 percent of enrollment during that period. The student body was composed of approximately 81.8 percent white students, 12.7 percent Hispanic students, 1.8 percent black students, and one percent Asian students during the same academic year.
