Lincoln-Way West’s boys wrestling team turned in a strong performance by finishing ninth overall at the Illini Classic and building momentum heading into the state series.
The tournament was held Jan. 17 with a large, competitive field that included many of the top programs in the region.
The Warriors placed nine wrestlers on the podium and showed depth across multiple weight classes. Carter DiBenedetto led the way with a runner-up finish at 126 pounds, while Max Herman placed third at 165. Mike Scott finished fourth at 106, Brady Glynn took fourth at 132, and Shane Stream added another fourth-place result at 138. Additional placers included Kellan Hack (fifth at 113), Jimmy Talley (fifth at 215), Evan Gutierrez (seventh at 157) and Charlie Strezo (eighth at 120). The consistent scoring throughout the lineup kept Lincoln-Way West in the top 10 of a stacked field and reflected the team’s progress as postseason competition approaches.
The overall result marked one of the Warriors’ strongest showings of the season and provided valuable experience against high-level opponents from across the state and Midwest.
Up next, Lincoln-Way West will return to action Jan. 31 for regionals.
