LWW boys baseball team blasts past TF South in 12-2 victory

Lincoln-Way West High School’s baseball team secured a decisive 12-2 victory over TF South on Thursday at Thornton Fractional South High School. The win was highlighted by a five-run third inning and effective pitching.

According to the game details, the Warriors initiated scoring in the first inning when Michael Pettit drew a walk, followed by a passed ball that brought in another run. They further extended their lead in the second inning with another walk by Pettit and a groundout by Jackson Mansker, each contributing to the score.

The third inning saw Lincoln-Way West explode for five runs. Quentin Lange hit a two-run single, Owen Weber added an RBI single, Pettit tripled to bring in another run, and Mansker completed the rally with an RBI double.

Pettit was credited with the win, allowing one hit and two runs over three innings while striking out seven batters. Tyler Bartley excelled in relief, pitching three hitless innings with seven strikeouts and one walk.

TF South’s starting pitcher Juan Lozano faced challenges on the mound, giving up 10 hits and nine runs (seven earned) over 2 2/3 innings while recording one strikeout and three walks.

The Warriors amassed 15 hits during the game. Mansker, Conor Essenburg, and Peyton Globke each contributed two hits, while Mansker, Carson Paulas, and Lange drove in two runs each. Lincoln-Way West also demonstrated aggressive base running with nine stolen bases; Lucas Acevedo, Kaden Killeen, Aidan O’Connor, and Essenburg each stole multiple bases.

For TF South, Michael Evans Jr. delivered their only RBI of the game, while Kyle Smith achieved their sole hit.

Lincoln-Way West aims to maintain its momentum as it prepares for its next matchup.
