Lincoln Way West defeated Pekin High in the first round of the IHSA Playoffs this past Friday night by a score of 34-14.

After the Warriors defense forced a Pekin three-and-out on its first possesion, LWW running back Jimmy Talley found the end-zone on a 1-yard run for the first score of the night.

Pekin came right back with a score of their own and tied the game up 7-7 as the first quarter came to a close.

The Warriors owned the second quarter, as they erupted for 17 points and basically put the nail in the coffin in the game. Touchdowns came courtesy of Austin Rowswell, and Chase Markowicz.

Kicker Zach Hermanson also nailed a 25-yard field goal and the Warriors led 24-7 at the half.

Both teams were able to get on the board once more in the second half. Warriors starting running back Jahan Abubakar went on a 32-yard sprint to the end-zone for their final score of the night.

LWW Quarterback Chase Hetfleisch had a solid performance on the night, completing 13 of his 18 pass attempts for 204 yards and a touchdown. Abubakar seemed to be the difference maker in the game, as he established 175 yards on 23 attempts and scored a touchdown of his own.

With the victory, Lincoln Way is headed to the second round in the playoffs and is set to match up against the 9-1 Batavia Bulldogs, this upcoming Saturday.
