Lincoln-Way West secured a decisive victory over Washington with a 15-6 win in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) sectional quarterfinals on Monday. This triumph advances them to the semifinals, showcasing a strong team performance.
Senior midfielder Matt Konow was instrumental for the Warriors, scoring five goals and leading an offensive charge that overwhelmed the Panthers. From the start of the game, Lincoln-Way West dictated the pace, leaving little uncertainty about the final result.
“Our guys set the tone early and never let up,” head coach Jackson said. “It was a complete team win.”
According to Jackson, Logan Yerkey excelled at faceoffs, winning all but four draws, which ensured Lincoln-Way maintained possession and offensive momentum. Defensively, goalie Logan Lahey made several crucial saves, thwarting Washington’s efforts to regain footing in the match.
The Warriors established an early lead and sustained pressure throughout both ends of the field during the contest. The victory keeps their postseason aspirations alive as they prepare to face D230 in the sectional semifinals.
Lincoln-Way West aims to maintain its momentum into the next round, hoping to extend its playoff journey and vie for a shot at the sectional title. The schedule for their semifinal matchup is yet to be announced.
