The Lincoln Way West Girls Volleyball team had a very eventful weekend competing in multiple games over the course of three days. They played against Romeoville, Richards, Oak Lawn, St. Laurence, and Thornwood.
In their first match of the weekend, the Lady Warriors emerged victorious against Romeoville Spartans on Friday in a two-set match, driven by impressive showings from seniors Caroline Smith, who had 6 blocks, 5 kills, and 1 ace, and also Elly Decker, who mustered up 8 kills and 3 aces, complemented by Laney Tuttle.
That very same night, LWW emerged triumphant against Richards High School in pool play, whose overall performance stands at 9-7. Lincoln’s Decker drove the offense with 6 kills and Claire Murphy delivered 23 assists. Tuttle secured 12 key digs.
The LWW girls were right back to it the following day, delivered a strong performance Saturday morning. Winning in three sets against Oak Lawn, Smith again excelled at the net with 9 kills and 3 blocks, while Tuttle provided defensive prowess with 10 digs and 3 aces.
Sunday morning saw the varsity volleyball team complete pool play with a dominant victory over Thornwood Thunderbird’s, thanks in part to Smith’s standout performance of 9 kills and 3 aces, followed by Laney Yuttke’s 6 aces.
Overall, The Warriors concluded the weekend with a 4-1 record, their lone loss being to St. Laurence in the Oak Lawn Invite championship. Smith was honored with an all-tournament award after recording 32 kills. Other notable achievements included Decker’s 27 kills, Murphy’s 94 assists, and Tuttle’s 45 digs. Lincoln-Way West had a back-to-back win against Thornwood High School and Romeoville High School. They scored 2-0 in both games.
