Pitching, patience lead Warriors over Downers Grove North

Lincoln-Way West’s varsity baseball team secured a decisive 8-0 victory over Downers Grove North on Wednesday afternoon, showcasing consistent offense and dominant pitching.

According to the game report, the Warriors initiated their scoring early, with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Anthony Vita drew a walk and Quinten Lange was hit by a pitch, each contributing to a run. The team continued to build their lead with two more runs in the second inning under similar circumstances. Jackson Mansker further extended the lead to 6-0 in the third inning with a two-run single down the left field line.

Adam Gerl was credited with the win for Lincoln-Way West, allowing only two hits and no runs over six innings while striking out seven batters. Alex Macias closed out the game with a scoreless inning of relief. In contrast, Downers Grove North’s Zach Ziroli took the loss after conceding six runs over three-plus innings.

Mansker spearheaded Lincoln-Way West’s offensive efforts, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Carson Paulas and Conor Essenburg also contributed significantly by collecting two hits each. Overall, the Warriors drew nine walks during the game, with Vita, Mansker, and Essenburg each drawing two.

Downers Grove North managed just two hits throughout the game, one from Jack Romsey and another from Joah Ratio. Lincoln-Way West is set to face Bradley-Bourbonnais in their next matchup on Thursday.
