Lincoln-Way West girls soccer earned a hard-fought victory over Carl Sandburg, prevailing in a penalty kick shootout after a scoreless match to secure the win.
The match took place April 18 at Carl Sandburg High School, where both teams battled through regulation and extra time without finding the back of the net.
Lincoln-Way West relied on a disciplined defensive effort and strong goalkeeping to stay even throughout the match. The Warriors limited scoring chances and maintained composure against consistent pressure, forcing the game into a shootout. Goalkeeper Skylar Zahorik delivered in the clutch during penalty kicks, making two key saves to swing momentum in favor of Lincoln-Way West. Her performance proved to be the difference in the decisive moments.
In the shootout, Abby German, Lucy Sheriff, Kate Kinsella and Grace Kinsella each converted their attempts, executing with confidence under pressure. Lincoln-Way West capitalized on its opportunities while shutting down Sandburg’s chances to secure the victory.
