Strong bats, solid relief lift Warriors over Knights, 11-6

Lincoln-Way West secured a victory over Calvary Christian with an 11-6 win in varsity baseball on Monday afternoon at LakePoint Sports Complex.

Calvary Christian initiated the scoring through a wild pitch in the first inning and extended their lead with two more runs in the second, courtesy of a double by Liam Hocutt. According to reports, Lincoln-Way West, also known as the Warriors, responded in the third inning, tying the game at 3-3 with hits from Conor Essenburg, Michael Pettit, and Ian Hazelip.

The Knights regained their advantage in the bottom of the third inning by scoring twice on a double by Tommy Irving and a single from Nate Osborne. However, Lincoln-Way West answered back with three runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-5 lead, capitalizing on a fielding error and a fielder’s choice.

Reliever Ben Joynt earned the win for Lincoln-Way West by allowing one run and one hit while striking out three batters over 2 1/3 innings. Starter Adam Gerl pitched for 2 2/3 innings, conceding five runs. Tyler Bartley contributed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. The Warriors accumulated 11 hits during the game, led by Hazelip, Pettit, and Lucas Acevedo with two hits each. Essenburg drove in four runs.

Calvary Christian’s performance was highlighted by Cam Houston’s two hits and Hocutt’s two RBIs. Despite their efforts, the Knights turned two double plays but ultimately faced defeat.
