Strong offense, solid pitching lead West over Herscher

Lincoln-Way West secured a decisive 10-0 victory over Herscher in a nonconference varsity baseball game on Monday afternoon. The Warriors established their dominance early, scoring in the first inning when Lucas Acevedo hit a double to bring in a run.

According to the game’s report, Lincoln-Way West widened their lead in the third inning with four additional runs. This included a two-RBI sacrifice fly from Anthony Vita and RBI singles by Acevedo and Kaden Kopacz.

The team continued their offensive surge in the fourth inning, adding five more runs on four hits. Michael Pettit and Jackson Mansker each contributed with RBIs, while Vita and Kopacz added RBI singles. Acevedo also drove in another run through a fielder’s choice.

Pettit was credited with the win for Lincoln-Way West, having allowed only two hits and no runs over three innings while striking out two batters. Acevedo and Alex Macias provided effective relief pitching to maintain the shutout. Cam Baker took the loss for Herscher.

The Warriors accumulated nine hits during the game. Acevedo, Mansker, and Carson Paulas each recorded two hits, with Acevedo driving in three runs overall. Paulas and Conor Essenburg accounted for four of the team’s five stolen bases. Defensively, Lincoln-Way West did not commit any errors.

Alec Nicholos and Gaige Brown each managed one hit for Herscher, which executed one double play during the game.

Lincoln-Way West is set to host Crete-Monee on Tuesday.
