The Lincoln-Way West Warriors defeated the Wheaton North Falcons 2-1 in a varsity non-conference baseball game.
The matchup took place at Wheaton North High School and featured strong pitching performances from both teams. Jackson Heinlen worked four innings and recorded 12 outs to earn the victory for Lincoln-Way West, while Luke Gouty closed the final three frames to secure the save. The Warriors struck early, with Jackson Mansker doubling in the first inning to drive in the game’s opening run. Kevin Thatcher added another run in the second inning with a single down the right field line after a six-pitch at bat. Mansker and Thatcher each finished with an RBI, and Quinten Lange led the offense by going 2 for 3 and stealing two bases to spark the lineup.
The Warriors are preparing for their next game on Monday, March 30, at 10 a.m., where they will face Crescent in a neutral-site non-conference matchup. This will be the first recorded meeting between Lincoln-Way West and Crescent Tigers, as MaxPreps shows no previous games between these programs.
Lincoln Way West serves grades nine through twelve and had an enrollment of 1,941 students during the 2019-2020 school year. The school is located in New Lenox within Will County. Of those enrolled that year, grade ten had the highest concentration of students at 39.4 percent; grade nine accounted for 36.3 percent; grade eleven made up 36.1 percent; and grade twelve comprised 37 percent of students.
Demographically, Lincoln Way West was composed of approximately 81.8 percent white students, 12.7 percent Hispanic students, 1.8 percent black students, and one percent Asian students during that same period, according to the Illinois Report Card.
