Lincoln-Way West’s varsity girls’ tennis team delivered another strong performance Thursday, defeating Bradley-Bourbonnais 4-3 in a Southwest Suburban Conference matchup.
The Warriors’ strength in doubles proved decisive, as the team swept all four courts to clinch the victory. At second doubles, Gabby Gentle and Charlotte Gauthier battled through a tight opening set before dominating the second to win 7-6 (3), 6-0. The duo’s resilience in the tiebreaker set the tone for the rest of the match.
Third doubles pairing Kendall Bucci and Sarah Ronspies cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory, controlling the net and keeping rallies short with aggressive play. Their steady performance ensured West kept momentum firmly in its favor. The Warriors also claimed wins at first and fourth doubles, completing a clean sweep in that phase of the competition.
Although Bradley-Bourbonnais earned three victories in singles play, West’s doubles depth carried the day. Head coach John Cupp praised the team’s composure and teamwork, highlighting the Warriors’ ability to rise in crucial moments.
With the win, Lincoln-Way West improved to 2-0 in conference play and 4-4 overall. The Warriors return home Sept. 16 to face Lincoln-Way East in another key test.
