Lincoln-Way West High School’s boys varsity water polo team secured an 18-3 victory over Shepard High School on Wednesday evening, enhancing its overall record to 19-7.
According to the team’s performance, Lincoln-Way West established control early in the game, setting a rapid pace and dominating possession throughout. The team built a significant lead in the first half and maintained momentum into the final quarters, keeping Shepard on the defensive.
Coaches attributed the win to strong teamwork, effective ball movement, and disciplined play on both ends of the pool. The defense remained aggressive, limiting scoring chances and forcing turnovers that led to several fast-break opportunities. “We executed our game plan and stayed focused from start to finish,” head coach Nick Schaub said. “This was a good step forward as we prepare for tougher competition.”
Schaub noted that multiple players contributed offensively in a well-rounded team performance while the defense remained organized and consistent. With the postseason approaching, Lincoln-Way West aims to carry this energy into upcoming matchups. The team continues to work on fundamentals and communication as the schedule intensifies.
Lincoln-Way West is set to return to action Monday with a match scheduled against Mt. Carmel at 5:30 p.m.
