Lincoln-Way West fell to Carterville 5–1 in a neutral tournament softball game at the Border Wars event.

The contest was played at a neutral site as part of the Border Wars tournament, where Lincoln-Way West struggled offensively against the state-ranked No. 2 Carterville squad, managing just two hits in the game. Paige Seivert provided the highlight for West with a solo home run, finishing 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Reese Forsythe added a double as part of her 1 for 3 performance, but Carterville’s early three-run first inning and two more in the fifth proved decisive. The Warriors’ defense held steady otherwise, committing no errors, yet the lack of sustained offense kept them from closing the gap.

Next up, Lincoln-Way West returns home for a conference matchup against Homewood-Flossmoor on Monday, April 6, at 4:30 p.m. The contest offers the Warriors a chance to rebound quickly and reassert themselves in conference play following the tough tournament loss.

The Warriors and Vikings met twice during the 2025 season. On May 1, 2025, Lincoln-Way West earned a decisive 12–2 home conference victory. Earlier that spring, they also faced off on April 8 in another conference matchup. Those results underscore the competitive history between these programs and set the stage for another important meeting as West looks to regain momentum.

Lincoln Way West had an enrollment of 1,941 students serving grades nine through twelve during the 2019-2020 school year and is located in New Lenox within Will County. Of those students, grade ten had the highest concentration with 39.4 percent enrolled; grade twelve accounted for 37 percent; grade eleven made up 36.1 percent; and grade nine comprised 36.3 percent, according to the Illinois Report Card. The student body was composed of approximately 81.8 percent white students, with Hispanic students making up about 12.7 percent; black students accounted for about 1.8 percent; and Asian students represented roughly one percent during that period.
