Lincoln-Way West fell to Carterville 5–1 in a neutral tournament softball game at the Border Wars event.
The contest was played at a neutral site as part of the Border Wars tournament, where Lincoln-Way West struggled offensively against the state-ranked No. 2 Carterville squad, managing just two hits in the game. Paige Seivert provided the highlight for West with a solo home run, finishing 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Reese Forsythe added a double as part of her 1 for 3 performance, but Carterville’s early three-run first inning and two more in the fifth proved decisive. The Warriors’ defense held steady otherwise, committing no errors, yet the lack of sustained offense kept them from closing the gap.
Next up, Lincoln-Way West returns home for a conference matchup against Homewood-Flossmoor on Monday, April 6, at 4:30 p.m. The contest offers the Warriors a chance to rebound quickly and reassert themselves in conference play following the tough tournament loss.
