Lincoln-Way West secured a 3-1 victory over Marist in the Windy City Classic tournament on Monday, overcoming an early setback with strong senior leadership and team chemistry.

After Marist’s Mia Sherry scored in the 12th minute, Lincoln-Way West responded decisively. Senior midfielder Ella McVicker equalized in the 26th minute by capitalizing on a corner kick. “I was ready and, on my toes,” McVicker said. “They didn’t mark me, and I was able to tap it in.”

According to reports, senior Kiersten White then gave Lincoln-Way West the lead just three minutes later with a long-range strike. White further extended the lead in the second half with another goal assisted by junior Kate Kinsella. “A great pass from Kate,” White said. “I just focused on placement instead of power. You have to take those chances.”

Head coach Joe Stephens commended his team’s mental resilience and highlighted the contributions of experienced players like seniors Eva Bach and Abby German. “That first 10 minutes, we struggled with first touches and couldn’t possess,” Stephens said. “But once we settled in, we played our game — building out, combining, and creating chances.”

Freshman forward Reagan White emphasized the team’s determination: “We just have to stay locked in,” she said. “No matter the score, we believe we can come back.”

Now boasting a 2-0 record, Lincoln-Way West aims to maintain its momentum throughout the season.
