The Lincoln-Way West girls varsity volleyball team demonstrated determination and resilience on Tuesday night, pushing Providence Catholic to three sets before narrowly losing 2-1 in a nonconference match.
According to the team’s performance, the Warriors began with energy, relying on sharp serves and disciplined defense to secure the first set. Senior leaders Lily Goyer and Kara Stigter led the offense, each recording six kills to maintain West’s balanced and aggressive attack. Providence regrouped to take the second set, but the Warriors remained steadfast, forcing a decisive third frame. The final set featured long rallies, with West’s front line challenging every swing and the back row keeping plays alive. Despite their determination, Providence secured the win by clinching the match in the final points.
Head coach and players praised the team’s effort, emphasizing their improvement and cohesion. “We’re building momentum,” one coach said. “The way the girls competed tonight shows we can play with anyone.” Lincoln-Way West is now focused on conference play and aims to convert its strong performance into victories as the season progresses. The Warriors’ combination of leadership and emerging talent positions them as a team to watch this fall.
